Dr. I.S. Jawahir of the University of Kentucky College of Engineering has joined the Center for a Sustainable Aluminum Industry (CSAI) to develop research using Six Sigma methodologies that will increase the level of recycling of UBC Aluminum products. This increased level of recycling will be shown to have positive effects on energy usage, environmental factors and employment opportunities.

Dr. Jawahir is the James F. Hardymon Chair in Manufacturing Systems and Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Kentucky. He earned a doctorate in Manufacturing Engineering at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, and has published over 130 research papers, including 72 refereed journal papers. He is also the holder of four patents, and has significant research funding from both the private and the public sector.
