UK,
LFUCG and Fayette Schools launch Partnership
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 24, 2005) -- The University of Kentucky, Lexington-Fayette
Urban County Government and Fayette County Public Schools today formed
the Bluegrass Partnership for a Green Community, an initiative aimed
at creating greater regional commitment to environmental issues by
government, schools, businesses, private citizens and young people.
"This exciting project provides us with a unique opportunity
to conserve our resources, protect the environment, and minimize
waste and pollution," Lexington Mayor Teresa Isaac said.
Potential partnership benefits include savings for partners, more
resources for joint research, sustainability-related business development
opportunities, increased expertise for academic instruction and
improved environmental education possibilities for children and
the broader community.
UK, LFUCG and FCPS operations directly impact a combined total
of 18,350 employees and 58,180 students. "Through this partnership,
we can impact students at all levels, through both curriculum and
extracurricular activities, while tackling environmental issues
that affect the entire region," UK President Lee T. Todd Jr.
said.
The partners see this project as an important step in an ongoing
series of collaborations. Silberman states, "Together, we can
present a strong, united front to sustain and improve the quality
of life for all Bluegrass residents."
The three affirmed their commitment by signing a proclamation at
an event at McConnell Springs in Lexington. |
